When you are applying your perfume it’s important to think about the different pulse points on your body, and how you can use these to maximise the scents of your perfume.
A pulse point is a place upon your body where you can feel your heartbeat. Try putting your two middle fingers upon the inside of your wrist to see if you can feel your heartbeat. There are many more places around your body in which you can feel your heartbeat. When applying your perfume it’s a good idea to apply it to your pulse points for two reasons:
• This is where your blood vessels are closest to the skin radiating heat creating a heat reaction of scents with your perfume.
• The physical movement of the pulse of your heart disturbs the perfume making it act like a mini fragrance pump, refreshing the scents.
Because of this it’s very important to apply your perfume to these points as after a while your perfume can be become weaker smelling, and adding to pulse points acts as a regenerating pump, refreshing the scents. Good pulse points are:
• Wrists
• Neck
• Back of your knees
• Ankles
• Crook of your elbow
• Cleavage
Another important thing to remember when applying to these pulse points is to vary between them. Your body can become used to a perfume making your skin become more resistant to the scents.
Another area of the body, which is great to apply your perfume to is your hair. This is because it is free to move around and bounce as you walk, again acting like a fragrance pump. Applying perfume to your hairbrush before you brush your hair will make the perfume stick to your hair, helping create a long lasting perfume scent everywhere you go and throughout the day and into the night.

Choosing a perfume in the summer can be difficult. Perfume needs changing to suit the different seasons just like your clothes. If you stick with your winter warmer perfume you could be left feeling hot and heavy, and making others around you also feeling the same.
It may be hard to part from you little winter warmer fragrance, but no doubt that this trusty warmer has heavy notes which may not be suitable for the warm wearer outside. Heavy notes which should be avoided are Woody Orientals such as Sandalwood and Guaiac wood. Other fragrances which may be too heavy for the summer are perfumes with base notes of strong lasting notes of musks, and aromatic fougere of vanilla and lavender.
When choosing your perfume for the summer it may be an idea to look for your favourite perfume in a lower concentrate such as ‘Eau de Perfume’ or ‘Eau de toilette’ these have less perfume within them making them lighter to wear. Also think about what you want your summer perfume to remind you off. It is the summer so fragrances which remind you of fun, sun, and all day freshness are great.
Good summery perfumes are fragrances which contain light floral notes; these are perfumes which have scents of single flowers or a bouquet of flowers. Other notes which work well in the summer’s heat are citrusey fragrances. These are scents with notes of lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit, and mandarin. These work well as they are light, and airy. However if planning on wearing citrus perfumes in the hot sun, watch out as bergamot, lemon and grapefruit can make your skin more probable to burning. These are the most popular summer’s scent groups for most, but these are not the only groups of perfumes that work well in the summer’s heat. Dry spicy and light dry woody scents can also work well along with herbal fragrances which do a great job in keeping you cool on hot days.
When applying your summery perfume on a hot day you may be tempted to spray your perfume onto your clothes, as you feel too hot and sticky to apply it to your skin. Spraying perfume onto your clothes could damage and stain your best summery clothes permanently. If you feel too hot and sticky to apply your perfume directly to your skin why not spray it in front of you then walk into it. This will subtly cover your hair and skin evenly and lightly without making it feel too overwhelming and hot.
For help choosing your summery perfume we will have a new page up and running soon where you can directly click on your favourite summary groups which will take you to our list of perfumes which represent these scents.
