Paul Smith Perfume
A UK designer, Paul Smith has successfully transferred his fashion design to the world of perfume with remarkable success. In fact, in some areas of society he’s known more as perfumer than a fashion designer! The man is well known for his classic smelling perfumes, often with a twist - like his designs.
Born just after the Second World War, Paul Smith originally dreamed of becoming a cyclist. However, after an accident at a young age, he was unable to continue that dream. Instead, he concentrated on fashion design, focussing on tailoring clothes for men. After early success with some of his designs, he opened his first store in Nottingham in 1970. For 20 years he expanded his menswear range throughout the midlands and the South East of the country, including a store in London. In 1990, he then opened up a childrens range of clothes, and three years later finally catered to women with the “Paul Smith Woman” range.
Fragrances were launched 2000 with the ubiquitous Paul Smith for Women and Paul Smith for Men. Two subtle variations of the same perfume. This trend continued in 2002 with the launch of “Paul Smith Extreme” (the bottle famously contians “Paul Smith Stripes”, a design feature of most Paul Smith garments), and in 2004 with “Paul Smith London”. It was only in 2005 with the launch of Paul Smith’s first female only fragrance - Floral - that fragrances for men and women began to differ. Men didn’t feel left out when a year after Paul Smith released “Story”, and another female fragrance, Paul Smith Rose, was released in 2007.
